Ayaka “Versailles” Lyric Video
Ayaka shared a heartfelt message about this song on her official website:
“The Rose of Versailles is a masterpiece that has been loved by people all over the world for over half a century. I am deeply honored to be in charge of writing the lyrics and music for the theme song ‘Versailles’ for the anime film version of The Rose of Versailles.
I was deeply moved by the courage, pure love, and the fragile fate hidden in the strength of the characters who live through turbulent times.
I have put my heart and soul into every note and word to express their feelings in music. I hope that fans will enjoy the music as well as the film, as it adds another page to this timeless masterpiece.”

The anime film project was originally announced in September 2022 as part of the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Ikeda’s The Rose of Versailles manga. The classic series was serialized in Shueisha’s shojo manga magazine Margaret from 1972 to 1973.
Over the years, it has inspired numerous adaptations, including a TV anime series that aired from 1979 to 1980, a live-action film directed by Jacques Demy in 1979, and a series of musical stage productions performed by the Takarazuka Revue since 1974.
Udon Entertainment, the publisher of the manga’s English edition, describes the story as follows:
Oscar François de Jarjeyes is a young noblewoman raised as a son by her father. As commander of Marie Antoinette’s palace guard, Oscar is brought face-to-face with the luxury of King Louis XVI’s court at Versailles.
Joined by her servant André, Oscar is privy to the intrigue and deceit of France’s last great royal regime.
