Spotlight + Monster Hunter Wilds Event, CAPCOM To Remaster Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny

Onimusha 2 - Samurai's Destiny

CAPCOM announced during the “CAPCOM Spotlight + Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase – February 2025” livestream on Tuesday that Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny will receive a remastered edition for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam in 2025.

The original version of Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny was first released for the PlayStation 2 in Japan in March 2002, followed by North America in August 2002 and Europe in October 2002.

In December, CAPCOM also introduced Onimusha: Way of the Sword during The Game Awards.

The Onimusha series, a Sengoku-era survival action game franchise, debuted in 2001. These games reimagine historical events from the Sengoku period while incorporating supernatural elements.

The most recent entry before this upcoming remaster was a remastered edition of Onimusha: Warlords, which launched in January 2019.

The franchise has also extended beyond games. In 2006, Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams inspired a CG film that compiled the in-game CG cutscenes from CAPCOM’s Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams PlayStation 2 title, with additional animated sequences.

More recently, an anime adaptation of the franchise premiered globally on Netflix in November 2023.

The anime was directed by Shin’ya Sugai at Sublimation, with renowned filmmaker Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Blade of the Immortal, Crows Zero, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable, Terraformars) serving as the supervising director.
