Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc Anime

The production team behind Black Butler: Emerald Witch Arc, the latest television anime adaptation of Yana Toboso’s Black Butler manga, unveiled a teaser video, key visual, and the show’s premiere date on Tuesday. The anime is set to debut on April 5.

The series will first air on Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, and Tochigi TV, with a simultaneous stream on ABEMA, on April 5 at 11:30 p.m. JST (10:30 a.m. EDT). MBS will broadcast the anime later the same night at 27:08 JST (effectively April 6 at 3:08 a.m. JST). Additional streaming services in Japan will begin hosting the series starting April 8.

Ahead of its official release, an advance screening event is scheduled for March 23 at the United Cinemas Aqua City Odaiba in Tokyo.

This latest arc follows Sebastian and Ciel as they embark on a mission to Germany under orders from the queen. Their objective is to investigate a string of mysterious deaths linked to a sinister legend—anyone who enters the Werewolf Forest is said to be cursed to die.

As they search for the truth, Sebastian and Ciel find themselves ensnared by this terrifying curse.

The main cast returns, with Daisuke Ono reprising his role as the demon butler Sebastian Michaelis and Maaya Sakamoto once again voicing the British noble Ciel Phantomhive. Additional cast members include Rie Kugimiya as Sieglinde Sullivan and Chikahiro Kobayashi as Wolfram.

Kenjirō Okada (March Comes in Like a Lion, RWBY: Ice Queendom) is back to direct the anime at CloverWorks. Returning staff from Black Butler: Public School Arc include Hiroyuki Yoshino as the series scriptwriter, Yumi Shimizu as the character designer, and Ryo Kawasaki handling the music composition.

For the first time, the rock band Cö shu Nie and musician HYDE have teamed up to perform the opening theme song, “Maisie.” The ending theme song, “Waltz,” is performed by Ryūgūjō, a seven-member group produced by Queen Bee’s Avu-chan.

Crunchyroll has confirmed it will stream the series. The anime’s cast is also set to make an appearance on the Green Stage at AnimeJapan 2025 on March 23 at 11:35 a.m. JST.

Black Butler: Public School Arc premiered in Japan on April 13, 2024. Crunchyroll is streaming the series across English-speaking, Latin American, and European territories. The platform previously stated that it holds the streaming rights worldwide, excluding Japan.

The Black Butler anime franchise adapts Yana Toboso’s manga of the same name. The first season aired in Japan in 2008, followed by Black Butler II in 2010. Black Butler: Book of Circus premiered in 2014.

Funimation has released all three television series, the Black Butler II OVA collection, Black Butler: Book of Murder OVAs, and the anime film Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic on home video.
