Shueisha announced on Monday that A Star Brighter Than the Sun (Taiyō Yori mo Mabushii Hoshi), the manga by Kazune Kawahara (My Love Story!!, Aozora Yell), is set to receive a television anime adaptation in 2025. To commemorate the announcement, the author released a special illustration.
A celebratory illustration by Kawahara was shared on the anime’s official website.
Originally debuting in Bessatsu Margaret magazine in June 2021, the manga has steadily gained popularity. Shueisha published its 10th compiled volume on November 25.
Viz Media is set to release the manga in English, with the first volume scheduled for publication on March 4. The company provides the following synopsis for Volume 1:
Sae and Koki have been friends since childhood. One fateful day at the end of middle school, she has a sudden realization—Koki has grown up!

A Star Brighter Than the Sun
Now that they’re in high school, another revelation dawns on her: she has feelings for him! But Sae isn’t the only girl who does… The big question remains: who does Koki have feelings for?
Viz Media has previously brought several of Kawahara’s works to English readers, including High School Debut and My Love Story!! (Ore Monogatari!!), which was co-created with Aruko.
My Love Story!! was adapted into a television anime in April 2015 and a live-action film in October 2015. Viz Media published all 13 volumes of the series in North America and will release a 14th volume containing a stand-alone story on March 4.
Kawahara and Aruko also collaborated in 2022 on a two-chapter manga titled Uso ka Makoto ka Yume ka Koi (Is This Love a Lie, the Truth, or a Dream?).
Several of Kawahara’s other works have inspired live-action film adaptations, including High School Debut (April 2011), Aozora Yell (August 2016), and Sensei! (October 2017), further cementing her influence in the romance genre.
