The latest chapter of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was recently published in Weekly Shonen Sunday, but the magazine has also announced that the manga will go on hiatus starting with the next issue.

This pause follows a brief two-week break in late November, marking the second interruption in a short span. According to Anime News Network, creators Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe have not provided a timeline for the series’ return.

The latest issue of Weekly Shonen Sunday, which combines the publication’s fourth and fifth 2025 issues, was released on December 11.

The frequency of these delays has drawn attention to potential challenges faced by the creators, though no official statements or social media updates have addressed their condition.

Similar breaks in the industry are often linked to health concerns, as seen in the case of My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi. While rumors have circulated about Yamada and Abe’s health, nothing has been confirmed.

Fans of Frieren still have something to anticipate despite these problems. Studio Madhouse has confirmed that Season 2 of the anime adaptation will air in 2025.

The first season, which debuted in September 2023, quickly garnered praise for its thoughtful storytelling, unique pacing, and well-developed characters. A teaser trailer and key visual for the upcoming season hint at the return of Frieren, her apprentice Fern, and their companion Stark.

The series, first launched in September 2023, follows Frieren, a skilled yet reserved Elven mage who once journeyed with the legendary hero Himmel and his companions Eisen and Heiter.

After their quest to defeat the Demon King concluded, Frieren drifted away from her comrades, only to start anew 50 years later with Fern, Heiter’s adopted daughter, and Stark, a warrior trained by Eisen.

During her travels, Frieren reflects on her past adventures, finding meaning in the relationships she once took for granted. Chapter 140 of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is set for release on January 1, 2025.

English readers can access the series through VIZ Media, while Madhouse’s anime adaptation streams on Crunchyroll and Roku. Fans eagerly await both the manga’s continuation and the next season of its adaptation.
