A new website launched on Wednesday to announce both the television anime and manga adaptations of Hikuidori (Fire Eater), the first volume in Shōgo Imamura’s Ushūboro Tobigumi historical novel series.
The manga adaptation, illustrated by Shinobu Seguchi (Shūjin Riku), is set to debut this spring, while the anime adaptation is scheduled for release in winter 2026.
Synergy SP is handling the animation production. Additionally, the website released a teaser video. Imamura first introduced the Ushūboro Tobigumi novel series with Hikuidori in 2017.

Since then, Shodensha has published 12 volumes of the series, along with a spinoff short story collection released in 2022. In 2021, the novel won the prestigious Yoshikawa Eiji Bunko Award in its sixth edition.
Beyond Hikuidori, Imamura also authored the Ikusagami (Last Samurai Standing) novels in 2022. The story was later adapted into a manga by Katsumi Tatsuzawa, which began serialization in Morning magazine under Kodansha in 2022.
Kodansha USA Publishing has since licensed the manga. Additionally, Netflix is producing a live-action adaptation of Last Samurai Standing, which is set to premiere in November.
