Jack O’Connell Joins The Cast For Next Godzilla x Kong Film Alongside Kaitlyn Dever and More

It was announced on Wednesday that Jack O’Connell (Unbroken, Ferrari) has joined the cast of the upcoming sequel to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, the latest installment in Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment’s Monsterverse franchise.

The film has also cast actress Kaitlyn Dever (Dopesick, Booksmart, the upcoming second season of The Last of Us). O’Connell is set to portray the brother of Dever’s character.

Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Dan Stevens will reprise his role from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire as the monster veterinarian Trapper. Grant Sputore (I Am Mother) will direct the sequel.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire premiered in the United States in March 2024, earning $80 million in its opening weekend and securing the top spot at the domestic box office.

The film debuted in Japan in April 2024, opening at #2 in the box office rankings. During its first four days, which included a long weekend, the film sold 306,000 tickets and generated 466,704,060 yen (approximately $2.97 million at current exchange rates).

Godzilla x Kong Film

The film stands as the highest-grossing entry in Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment’s Monsterverse franchise, amassing $570 million globally and surpassing the 2017 film Kong: Skull Island, which earned $568.8 million.

Domestically, the film has grossed $196.3 million, while its international earnings total $373.7 million. It has set records as the highest-grossing Monsterverse title in 35 markets, including Brazil, Colombia, France, India, Indonesia, Mexico, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The Hollywood Monsterverse franchise currently consists of the 2014 Godzilla film, the 2017 Kong: Skull Island film, the 2019 Godzilla: King of the Monsters film, the 2021 Godzilla vs. Kong film, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Additionally, the franchise includes Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Legendary Entertainment’s television series featuring Godzilla and the Titans.

The series premiered worldwide on Apple TV+ on November 17 and has been confirmed for a second season.
