Katarina's Shangri-La Frontier Web Novel

The final episode of the second season of the television anime adaptation of Katarina’s Shangri-La Frontier web novel series revealed on Sunday that the anime will be receiving a third season.

The second season of the anime premiered on October 13 and aired for two consecutive cours (a quarter of the year). Crunchyroll has been streaming the anime as it airs in Japan, and also provides an English dub.

The first season of the anime debuted in October 2023, airing on 28 MBS/TBS networks. Like the second season, it also ran for two consecutive cours, and Crunchyroll streamed the series during its Japanese broadcast.

The anime is directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka (known for Harukana Receive and Wandering Witch – The Journey of Elaina) at C2C, with Hiroki Ikeshita as the assistant director.

Kazuyuki Fudeyasu, who has worked on Black Clover, Dropkick on My Devil!, Hetalia The Beautiful World, In the Land of Leadale, and Record of Ragnarok, supervised and wrote the series scripts.

Kodansha USA Publishing releases the manga adaptation of Katarina’s Shangri-La Frontier web novel by Ryōsuke Fuji, which describes the story as follows:

Second-year high school student Rakurō Hizutome has one passion: finding “shitty games” and beating them to a pulp. His gaming skills are unmatched, and no game is too bad for him to enjoy.

So when he’s introduced to the new VR game Shangri-La Frontier, he does what he does best—min-maxing and skipping the prologue to dive straight into the action. But even an expert gamer like Rakurō may find himself uncovering the hidden secrets of Shangri-La Frontier…

Katarina launched the Shangri-La Frontier novel series on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō (Let’s Be Novelists) website in May 2017. Katarina also wrote an additional novel series in Weekly Shōnen Magazine.

Ryōsuke Fuji began the manga adaptation of Shangri-La Frontier in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in July 2020. In addition, Netmarble Nexus is developing a game based on the series, with Netmarble publishing it.
