Netflix Korea confirmed at a press conference last month that the highly anticipated Netflix series Cashero is set to premiere in the fourth quarter of the year.
Cashero is based on the webtoon of the same name and follows the life of Sang-ung Kang, an ordinary civil servant who unexpectedly gains superpowers.
However, his abilities are directly tied to the amount of cash he physically holds, making for an unusual and ironic twist. Played by 2PM’s Jun-ho Lee, Kang works at a community center and dreams of owning a house.
But every time he uses his powers, his money vanishes, forcing him into challenging and comedic situations as he struggles to balance heroism with financial survival.
Actors Hyang-gi Kim and Byung-chul Kim will also appear in the series.
Director’s Vision
Director Chang-min Lee spoke about the show’s unique approach, blending elements of a “working-class hero” with a “superhero story.”
He acknowledged, “I agree that the mix doesn’t blend smoothly. We didn’t force it; we presented it as it is. Cashero is not in the Marvel style—we made it our own way.”
Lee further elaborated on the core theme, stating, “The concept of an ordinary man who can use superpowers only as much as he has cash in hand creates an irony that defines our show.
In a way, it doesn’t even feel like a typical superhero story. We aimed to keep it relatable and grounded in reality.”
Webtoon and Availability
The original Cashero webtoon is illustrated by Team befar and is available in English on Tapas.
