Lotte Entertainment, a South Korean film distributor, revealed on February 15 that the live-action adaptation of Omniscient Reader is set to premiere in July.
The movie is inspired by the webtoon of the same name, which follows Dok-ja Kim, the sole reader of a long-running fantasy novel. When the novel’s fictional world suddenly becomes reality, Kim teams up with its protagonist, Joong-hyuk Yoo, to prevent the world’s collapse.
Ahn Hyo-seop takes on the role of Dok-ja Kim, while Lee Min-ho portrays Joong-hyuk Yoo. The ensemble cast also features Soo-bin Chae, Seung-ho Shin, Nana, and Ji Soo from Black Pink. The film is directed by Byung-woo Kim, recognized for his work on The Terror Live and Concrete Utopia.

Live Action Adaptation For Omniscient Reader
The official launch trailer opens with Kim standing bewildered inside a subway train that has abruptly halted on Dongho Bridge. As he begins to recognize that the unfolding events mirror the novel he had been engrossed in, the world around him spirals into chaos.
The Omniscient Reader webtoon, created by author singNsong, artist Sleepy-C, and adaptor UMI, is accessible in English via WEBTOON. Yen Press’ Ize Press imprint is also publishing the webtoon in print.
In July 2024, Crunchyroll announced that the webtoon would receive a television anime adaptation. The webtoon itself is based on singNsong’s original web novel, which Ize Press is set to release in print starting in July.
