The character designs, created by Chorefuji, are being adapted for animation by Yuki Shizuku, who has worked on Smile of the Arsnotoria the Animation and Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout. Keiichirō Ōchi, known for Adachi and Shimamura and The Quintessential Quintuplets, is overseeing the series scripts.
Yen Press is publishing the English version of the light novels and provides the following story description:
“On her seventeenth birthday, Meg, an apprentice witch, learns that she only has one year left to live. Her teacher, the long-lived witch Faust, explains that the only way to undo the death curse is to collect tears of joy and grow the seed of life.
To find them, Meg must leave the sheltered life she has always known and venture into the world. Along the way, she will encounter new friends, experience partings, and shed many tears. Through these trials, Meg will come to realize that the most important lessons for a witch are bright, sweet, and often heartbreaking.”
Saka began the story on the Kakuyomu website in October 2019 and finished it in August 2022. Kadokawa has been publishing the light novels with illustrations by Chorefuji, releasing the second volume on July 17. The third volume is set to release on March 17.
A manga adaptation by Kenu Amearare launched on the KadoComi (Comic Walker) website in March 2023. Kadokawa released the third volume of the manga on September 27, and the fourth volume is scheduled for release on April 10.
