The February issue of Kadokawa’s Monthly Comic Gene magazine confirmed on January 15 that Shō Harusono’s Sasaki and Miyano manga will resume serialization in spring 2025.
In addition, Harusono’s Hirano and Kagiura spinoff manga began its new monthly serialization schedule in the same magazine starting on January 15.
Harusono had initially announced on X/Twitter on January 1 that Sasaki and Miyano would return as an irregular serialization in spring.
The last chapter of Sasaki and Miyano was released on February 23 of the previous year. The manga’s 10th compiled volume was also delayed from its original December 2023 release to March 2024.
Harusono explained that the primary reason for the delay was their health issues that began at the end of 2023. They noted that recovery had taken longer than expected, and they underestimated how much time it would take to finish the volume.
Sasaki and Miyano
Yen Press, which publishes the series in English, describes the plot of Sasaki and Miyano as follows: It all started like a typical old-school boys’ love storyline—bad-boy senior meets adorably awkward underclassman, one of them falls in love, and so on.
But despite Miyano being a self-proclaimed boys’ love expert, he hasn’t realized that he’s in one himself. So, it’s up to Sasaki to ensure their story ends with a happily ever after!
Harusono launched Sasaki and Miyano on the pixiv website in 2016. The series inspired a novel by Kotoko Hachijō and led to the creation of the Hirano to Kagiura spinoff manga, which focuses on two side characters.
This spinoff began serialization in Monthly Comic Gene in 2019. Kadokawa published the fourth volume of the spinoff in February 2023, and Yen Press also releases it in English. The spinoff has since inspired its own novel.
A television anime adaptation of Sasaki and Miyano aired its 12-episode season starting in January 2022, with Funimation streaming both the episodes and an English dub. The Sasaki to Miyano: Sotsugyo-hen (Graduation Chapter) anime film premiered in Japan in February 2023, screening alongside an anime short of Hirano and Kagiura.
