Sony made an announcement during the “State of Play” livestream on Wednesday, revealing that the remake of “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater,” titled “Metal Gear Solid △: Snake Eater” (△ is pronounced “Delta”), will launch on August 28 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Pre-orders are currently available.
The trailer also hinted at the possible inclusion of characters from the “Ape Escape” franchise.
The original “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater” game, directed by Hideo Kojima, was first released on PlayStation 2 in November 2004.
Since then, it has been remastered and re-released on platforms including PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PlayStation Vita. A Nintendo 3DS version was launched in March 2011.
The majority of the games in the “Metal Gear Solid” franchise center around Solid Snake, a special forces operative who gradually becomes entangled in a vast global conspiracy.

In November 2021, Konami announced the temporary removal of several “Metal Gear Solid” titles from digital storefronts, including “Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater,” “Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D,” and “Metal Gear Solid HD Collection.”
The last “Metal Gear” title directed by Kojima under Konami, “Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain,” was released in September 2015 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. The game sold over six million copies.
Following Kojima’s departure, “Metal Gear Survive” became the first new console installment in the series. It was launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in February 2017.
