The Apothecary Diaries Season 1 Part 1 Set For Crunchyroll and Blu-ray Release This Week

The Apothecary Diaries Season 1

On Monday, February 24, Crunchyroll will release The Apothecary Diaries Season 1 Part 1 on Blu-ray, featuring the first 12 episodes.

J-Novel Club publishes the original novel series digitally and describes the story as follows:

“In the East is a land ruled by an emperor, whose consorts and serving women live in a sprawling complex known as the hougong, the rear palace.

Maomao, an unassuming girl raised in an unassuming town by her apothecary father, never imagined the rear palace would have anything to do with her—until she was kidnapped and sold into service there.

“Though she looks ordinary, Maomao has a quick wit, a sharp mind, and an extensive knowledge of medicine. That’s her secret, until she encounters a resident of the palace at least as perceptive as she is: the head eunuch, Jinshi.

He sees through Maomao’s façade and makes her a lady-in-waiting to none other than the Emperor’s favorite consort… so she can taste the lady’s food for poison!”

Norihiro Naganuma (The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 1) directed the anime at TOHO animation and OLM, while also supervising the scripts. Akinori Fudesaka served as assistant director. Yukiko Nakatani (Go! Princess Precure, Tropical-Rouge! Precure) handled the character designs.

Hyūga first serialized the story on the “Shōsetsuka ni Narō” (Let’s Become Novelists) website in October 2011.

MVM will release the 12-episode series The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy on Blu-ray. Yen Press publishes the light novels in English and describes the story:

“Awakening from magical stasis after a thousand years, the Dark Lord Leonis suddenly finds himself in the body of a ten-year-old boy! He quickly meets Riselia, a girl confronting the Voids, creatures that have nearly exterminated humanity.

Determined to uncover the mysteries of this strange new era, Leonis enrolls in Excalibur Academy, a school that trains students to fight back against these enigmatic monsters. Could the Voids hold some connection to Leonis’s past?”

Kadokawa published the first volume of Shimizu’s novel series with Tōsaka’s illustrations in May 2019, and the series remains ongoing.

Anime Limited will release the 23-episode first season of Welcome to Demon School, Iruma-kun on Blu-ray. The story follows Iruma, a kind-hearted 14-year-old boy whose parents sell him to demons for their own selfish gain. However, the demon who purchases him has no grandson of his own, so he dotes on Iruma and sends him to a demon school.

Makoto Moriwaki (Onegai My Melody – Kuru Kuru Shuffle!, Tantei Opera Milky Holmes Dai-Ni-Maku, PriPara) directed the anime at Bandai Namco Pictures, while Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Princess Resurrection, Tantei Opera Milky Holmes, Girls’ Last Tour) handled series composition.

Akimitsu Honma (RIN-NE, Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku) composed the music. NHK and NHK Enterprises were credited for production.

Nishi launched the manga in Weekly Shōnen Champion in March 2017.
