Kodansha announced on Friday that The Banished Court Magician Aims to Become the Strongest (Mikata ga Yowasugite Hojo Mahō ni Tesshiteita Kyūtei Mahōshi), a light novel series written by Alto and illustrated by Yuunagi, will be adapted into a television anime set to premiere in October.
Alongside this announcement, the anime’s official website was launched, featuring a teaser trailer, key visual, and details regarding the cast and staff.
To commemorate the anime adaptation, both Yuunagi, the light novel’s illustrator, and Yuki Monji, the manga adaptation’s artist, created special celebratory illustrations.
Main Character and Voice Cast
Shūichirō Umeda has been cast as the voice of the protagonist, Alec Yugret.
Production Staff
Ken Takahashi, known for his work on Fate/kaleid liner Prisma☆Illya 3rei!!, Butlers x Battlers, and Ragna Crimson, is directing the series at Gekkō, with Masamune Hirata serving as the assistant director. The series scripts are being handled by Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (Flower and Asura, Dropkick on My Devil!, Is the order a rabbit?).
Character design is led by Yōko Satō (Dog & Scissors, Saiyuki Reload Blast, I’m in Love with the Villainess), with Nobuhide Hayashi assisting as the sub-character designer.
Both Satō and Hayashi are also credited as chief animation directors. Music composition is a collaborative effort between Diosta inc. and High Speed Boy inc.

Story Overview
The anime follows Alec Yugret, a magician who specialized in support magic to assist the crown prince in dungeon exploration during their youth.
However, Alec is unexpectedly dismissed from his position as the court magician when the prince declares that a magic user who only excels in support spells is worthless. Left without a job, Alec is soon approached by an old friend, Yorha, who invites him to embark on new dungeon expeditions.
Publication History
The original light novel was serialized on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website from October 2020 to September 2022. Kodansha later began publishing the print version, featuring illustrations by Yuunagi, with the first volume released in August 2021. The series’ fifth volume is set to be published in August 2024.
Meanwhile, the manga adaptation by Yuki Monji launched in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app in July 2021, one month before the light novel’s first volume was released.
Kodansha published the manga’s 14th compiled volume on January 8 and is scheduled to release the 15th volume on April 9. The series is also available in English through Kodansha’s K MANGA app.
