Tickets are now available online for the UK cinema release of The Colors Within (Kimi no Iro), the latest anime feature film from Science SARU and director Naoko Yamada (K-ON!, The Heike Story, A Silent Voice).
The film will officially debut in UK cinemas on Friday, January 31, with screenings offered in both dubbed and subtitled versions.
Prior to the main release, an English-dubbed IMAX screening will take place in London on Wednesday, January 29, at the BFI IMAX cinema near Waterloo station.
This special event will be hosted by Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham, co-hosts of the Ghibliotheque podcast. The English dub features a talented voice cast, including Libby Rue, Kyle McNeill, Eddy Lee, and Eileen Stevens.
Originally released in Japan on August 30, 2024, The Colors Within centers on Totsuko, a high school girl with the unique ability to see the “colors” of people’s emotions.
Set in Nagasaki, Totsuko navigates her life by reading others’ emotions, often lying or overthinking to prevent those around her from experiencing darker feelings.

Her journey takes a turn when she visits an antique bookshop in a quiet part of town and encounters a beautiful woman with a captivating color and a boy passionate about forming a band. Together, these three sensitive individuals come together to create music, forging deep connections in the process.
Naoko Yamada directed the film at Science SARU, with Story Inc. credited as planner and producer. Renowned screenwriter Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!, Girls und Panzer, Violet Evergarden, Ride Your Wave) wrote the script, and kensuke ushio (A Silent Voice, Liz and the Blue Bird, Chainsaw Man, Space Dandy) composed the soundtrack.
DaisukeRichard designed the original characters, while Takashi Kojima served as character designer and animation director. The film’s theme song, “in the pocket,” is performed by Mr. Children.
The film had its world premiere in June at this year’s Annecy International Film Festival. It went on to win the Best Animation Film award at the 26th Shanghai International Film Festival the same month.
In addition to the film, Sanami Suzuki launched a manga adaptation on Kadokawa’s Comic Newtype platform on July 16, further expanding the story’s reach.
