The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4

Kadokawa announced on Tuesday that The Rising of the Shield Hero anime will return for its fourth season in July and revealed additional cast members. The anime’s staff also unveiled a new visual to accompany the announcement.

New Cast Members

The newly announced cast additions for The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4 include:

  • Takeo Ōtsuka as Werner
  • Jirō Saitō as Jarali

Upcoming Event – “Shield Fes”

In addition to the new cast announcements, the anime’s staff will host a “Shield Fes” event in Tokyo on June 15. The event will feature cast members and musicians from the series.

While the returning cast and staff for Season 4 have not yet been officially confirmed, Kaito Ishikawa (Naofumi Iwatani), Asami Seto (Raphtalia), Rina Hidaka (Filo), Natsuko Hara (Rishia), Yoshitsugu Matsuoka (Ren Amaki), and Makoto Takahashi (Motoyasu Kitamura) are set to appear at the event.

Streaming Details

Crunchyroll has confirmed that it will stream the fourth season as it airs.

The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 4

Previous Seasons Recap

The Rising of the Shield Hero anime debuted in January 2019 with a two-hour special and ran for 25 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the series simultaneously with its Japanese broadcast.

The second season, The Rising of the Shield Hero 2, premiered in April 2022, with Crunchyroll once again streaming it. The third season followed in October 2023.

Manga and Light Novel Adaptation

One Peace Books is publishing Yusagi Aneko’s original light novel series and Aiya Kyu’s manga adaptation in English. The publisher describes the first volume of the novel series as follows:

“Naofumi Iwatani, an uncharismatic otaku who spends his days on games and manga, suddenly finds himself summoned to a parallel universe! He discovers he is one of four heroes equipped with legendary weapons and tasked with saving the world from its prophesied destruction.

As the Shield Hero, the weakest of the heroes, all is not as it seems. Naofumi is soon alone, penniless, and betrayed. With no one to turn to, and nowhere to run, he is left with only his shield. Now, Naofumi must rise to become the legendary Shield Hero and save the world!”
