Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Anime

The official website for the second season of the anime adaptation of Iro Aida’s Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun (Jibaku Shōnen Hanako-kun) manga announced on Sunday that the series will receive a sequel, set to premiere on TBS and its affiliates in July 2025. The sequel will air on Sundays at 4:30 p.m. JST.

Aida created a special illustration to celebrate the announcement. The anime’s second season premiered on January 12. Crunchyroll is streaming the new season as it airs in Japan, including an English dub.

Yōhei Fukui, who directed episode 10 of the original series, is now directing the main second season at Lerche, taking over from Masaomi Andō, who directed the first season.

Yasuhiro Nakanishi, who handled the series scripts, and character designer Mayuka Itou have returned from the first season. Masayoshi Ōishi is performing the second season’s opening theme song, “L’oN,” while Akari Kitō is singing the ending theme, “With a Wish.”

The sequel to the four-episode short television anime adaptation of Iro Aida’s After-School Hanako-kun (Hōkago Shōnen Hanako-kun) spinoff manga premiered on October 7. The cast and staff from the short anime are both returning.

In December 2022, the official website for the Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun anime announced that the anime project was “restarting.”

The first season of the anime aired in Japan in January 2020, with a total of 12 episodes. Funimation streamed the series, offering both an English dub and English subtitles.

Yen Press is publishing the Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun manga in English and provides the following synopsis for the story:

“Hanako-san, Hanako-san…are you there?” At Kamome Academy, there are rumors surrounding the school’s Seven Mysteries, one of which is Hanako-san. Hanako-san is said to occupy the third stall of the third-floor girls’ bathroom in the old school building and will grant any wish when summoned.

Nene Yashiro, an occult-loving high school girl who dreams of romance, ventures into this haunted bathroom… but the Hanako-san she meets is not what she imagined! Kamome Academy’s Hanako-san… is a boy!

Aida first launched the ongoing manga in Square Enix’s G Fantasy magazine in 2014.

The first After-School Hanako-kun anime aired on TBS in October 2023. Crunchyroll streamed it the same day, airing at 2:00 p.m. ET — ahead of the Japanese broadcast — across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS, and India.

Aida launched the After-School Hanako-kun spinoff manga in pixiv Comic in February 2018, and concluded it with the 25th chapter in October 2021. Square Enix published a collected volume of the manga in August 2019. Yen Press released the volume in English in April 2021.
