HIDIVE, Shudder, and Iconic Events Releasing began streaming a trailer on Thursday for the 40th-anniversary screenings of the Vampire Hunter D anime. The film will be shown in more than 500 theaters across the United States and Canada, with both Japanese audio accompanied by English subtitles and an English-dubbed version.
The screenings will feature the digitally remastered edition of the film, which was produced by Sentai Filmworks in 2015.
Additionally, the companies announced that the anime will make its streaming debut on HIDIVE and Shudder later this year.
Iconic Events Releasing, in collaboration with Anime Expo’s AX Cinema Nights program, will present the 40th-anniversary screenings of Vampire Hunter D on April 9, 10, and 13.
The April 9 screening will feature Japanese audio with English subtitles, while the April 10 and 13 screenings will present the English-dubbed version. Tickets for the screenings became available on February 12. AX Cinema Nights describes the film as follows:
In the year 12,090 AD, technology and the supernatural have overtaken the world, leaving the land desolate and despotic. The remnants of humanity are scattered into small communities and live in fear of vampires who compose the ruling Nobility.
When Count Magnus Lee tastes the blood of Doris Lang, she is forcibly chosen to be his next wife. In an effort to escape her ill-gotten fate, she hires a mysterious vampire hunter known only as D, who comes from a peculiar lineage.

Vampire Hunter D Anime
The Vampire Hunter D OAV originally premiered in Japan in December 1985. Sentai Filmworks holds the license for the film and last released it on Blu-ray Disc in 2022.
The latest AX Cinema Nights screenings have featured a range of classic anime films. Past showings included Ninja Scroll in September, Metropolis (2001) in November, Paprika in January, and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie earlier this month. In October, the event also screened Mobile Suit Gundam I, Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldiers of Sorrow, and Mobile Suit Gundam III: Encounters in Space.
Additionally, Babymetal Legend-43 The Movie was shown on December 11 and 15. The upcoming screenings will include Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack on March 12 and 16.
This latest AX Cinema Nights installment has brought all of these films to over 500 theater locations throughout the U.S.
The inaugural AX Cinema Nights event featured the 3DCG anime film Ryoma! The Prince of Tennis (Ryōma! Shinsei Gekijōban Tennis no Ōji-sama) in May 2022. Later in 2022, the event screened The House of the Lost on the Cape and A Silent Voice across North America in September and October, respectively.
The second AX Cinema Nights series presented screenings of Satoshi Kon’s Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, and Paprika, along with Ghost in the Shell and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie.
