Warner Bros. Discovery revealed on Tuesday that Rick and Morty: The Anime is set to release on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on April 29.
The series originally debuted last August on Adult Swim and Max with its English dub, while the Japanese audio version with English subtitles premiered on the Toonami block. Additionally, the show aired on Adult Swim Canada.
The Japanese and English voice cast includes:
- Youhei Tadano / Joe Daniels as Rick
- Keisuke Chiba / Gabriel Regojo as Morty
- Akiha Matsui / Donna Bella Litton as Summer
- Manabu Muraji / Joe Daniels as Jerry
- Takako Fuji / Patricia Duran as Beth
Following its Adult Swim premiere, each episode became available for streaming on Max and could also be purchased digitally the next day.
Unlike a direct adaptation, the anime is an original production that incorporates themes and elements from the main Rick and Morty animated series.
The 10-episode series was written and directed by Takashi Sano (Tower of God) at Telecom Animation Film (Lupin III, Shenmue the Animation). Sano had previously helmed the animated shorts Rick and Morty vs. Genocider and Summer Meets God (Rick Meets Evil).
The series was produced by Sola Entertainment, with Maki Nagano, Max Nishi, and Takenari Maeda serving as producers. Yu Kiyozono (TAF) took on the role of animation producer, while Yuuki Kakizoe (TAF) acted as assistant producer.

The executive producers were Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou. The art direction was led by Arisa Matsuzawa (TAF), while Makiko Kojima (Studio Road) served as the color designer.
Sou Ki (Souki Production) handled CGI direction, Kaori Kobayashi oversaw special effects, Tatsuo Noguchi (T.D.F.) managed compositing, and Yoshihiro Kasahara was responsible for editing. Kōichi Iizuka directed the sound, and Tetsuya Takahashi composed the music at Terra-Musica.
The opening theme song, Love is Entropy, is performed by OC from Code of Zero, featuring Cameron Earnshaw. OtoneZ wrote the lyrics, composed the track, and arranged the song.
Studio DEEN previously produced the first Samurai & Shogun animated short for Rick and Morty, which aired on Toonami and was streamed online in March 2020. A sequel followed in November 2021.
Additionally, Adult Swim released The Great Yokai Battle of Akihabara, an 11-minute animated short, in October 2021. The short also aired on Toonami that same month.
Another animated short, Rick and Morty vs. Genocider, was streamed by Adult Swim in July 2020, running for eight minutes.
