Webtoon and web novel platform Manta announced on Tuesday that it will launch its Premium subscription plan on February 11 at 12:00 a.m. EST. According to Manta, the new plan is designed to expand access to its content library while offering flexibility for users interested in engaging with Gem titles.
Priced at US$9.99 per month, the Premium subscription grants full access to more than 300 stories currently available to regular subscribers, including Manta Originals and an expanding collection of licensed titles.
Manta Originals—such as Under the Oak Tree, Betrayal of Dignity, and It Was Just a Contractual Marriage—will continue to be part of the subscription library, as they are either produced or co-produced by Manta.
Additionally, Premium subscribers will receive 125 Gems each month. Normally, 125 Gems are available for purchase at US$9.99.
Manta explained that due to licensing agreements, Gem titles cannot be included in the standard subscription, making the Premium plan an “affordable and flexible way to access” them. The existing standard subscription, priced at US$4.99 per month, will remain available.
In an email sent to its readers, Manta emphasized that the new tier supports its long-term goal of expanding content while keeping its service affordable. A promotional offer will accompany the launch, with further details to be announced.
In September, Manta introduced webtoon titles on its platform that can only be purchased using the in-service Gems currency. Prior to this change, all webtoons on Manta were included in the platform’s subscription model. At the time, many subscribers criticized the shift.
Manta is owned by South Korean company RIDI Corporation. While the platform also provides English translations of South Korean web novels, these have only been available through the Gems system rather than being included in the webtoon subscription.
